*Thumb guards are manufactured from HPPE (High Performance Polyethylene) and although they offer substantially more protection than an uncovered finger this should not be relied upon and users should take all appropriate safety measures to prevent contact with any tools being used. Thumb guards are not suitable for high temperature use. Keep away from heat sources and naked flames.

A Spoon Carving Kit is a wonderful gift for any creative soul or a great way to develop and practice your own woodcarving skills in your own time.
The Ivy Leaves Scoop design is based on an original piece created by Giles in 2023 as part of a series of Leaf Coffee Scoop Spoons. Though small in size the Ivy Leaves Scoop offers the carver the chance to create a piece with great depth, detail and delicate refinement.
Despite it’s size this is one of the more challenging spoon projects requiring the carver to carefully plan the relative depth of elements and the order in which to carve them so as to retain as much strength in the wood as possible. One of the key challenges is undercutting the leaf that sits over the bowl (if you choose to do so of course!). How far you take this design is up to you!!
The 16-page booklet includes step-by-step instructions for six essential and foundational carving techniques in spoon carving and takes you through each step of the spoon carving process. Along with a handy visual reference for your specific spoon design and important safety guidance the booklet is designed to help the carver throughout the process, build their carving confidence, experience and knowledge as well as being a useful guide for their future carving ambitions.
Stropping or honing your carving knife on a regular basis is essential in order to keep your tool sharp and in the best condition for carving. The included ‘Pocket Strop’ is the perfect addition to your carving kit. Designed for ultimate portability the strop has been sustainably made by Giles using reclaimed industrial timber and the highest quality, locally sourced leather. The included honing compound is a medium grit and is ideal for maintaining a sharp, ready-to-carve edge on your knife.
The included Spoon Stand is not only perfect for you to display your finished work but is really handy during the carving process; allowing your spoon-in-progress to stand so you can step back from your work, assess your progress and plan your next carving step.
Lime wood is ideal for newcomers to woodcarving as well as those looking to focus on learning and developing their carving techniques as it is much softer and easier to carve than many other woods. Pale, creamy white in colour, Lime cuts cleanly and quickly with a sharp knife.
In order to carve your spoon kit you will need appropriate tools as no tools are included in the kit. A simple woodcarving knife and hook / spoon knife are ideal. The Morakniv 120 Carving Knife and Morakniv 164 hook knife are good tools to start with. Widely available, they offer excellent value for money for newcomers to spoon carving.
