  • One-off piece of wearable art

  • Signed on the reverse

  • Carved entirely by hand in ancient English Oak

  • Responsibly foraged, wind fallen wood

  • Carved from a single piece of wood.

  • Height: 7cm (2.75in)

  • Width: 4.5cm (1.77in)

This unique pendant is entirely hand carved in 400 year old English Oak using just one knife. Inspired by 2018 being the centenary year of the end of the First World War and the symbolic association of the Poppy flower with remembrance. The four poppy stems reference 11/11, 11th November, the date on which the war came to an end.

Individually designed and hand carved by knife, the pendant is a unique piece of jewellery; a one off piece of art, signed by Giles Newman and never to be reproduced. Ideal as a gift for a loved one or as an heirloom item to pass down for generations to come.

The pendant can fit on chains up to 2mm thick (not supplied) via an eyelet attachments on the reverse. Larger chains can be accommodated using split rings.

The Oak for this necklace was responsibly sourced from a farmers field near to Giles’ home in Lancashire, UK. Having fallen in winter storms a few years ago, the landowner offered him access and use of the 400 year old Oak tree for his carving work.

After carving the piece has been coated in Tung oil, a natural, deep penetrating, non-toxic oil.

Because this is a hand carved and finished product made from untreated, un-machined wood, the pendant will not be as smooth or perfectly finished as commercially manufactured wooden items. Knife and axe marks from the carving process will still be visible. As the pendant ages and is worn, it's colour will slowly mellow and change; this is perfectly natural.
