Flying Fox Bat Pendant
Flying Fox Bat Pendant
One-off piece of wearable art
Signed on the reverse
Carved entirely by hand in ancient Abonos Oak (Bog Oak)
Responsibly foraged wood.
Carved from a single piece of wood.
Height: 4.2cm (1.65in)
Width: 1.5cm (0.59in)
Individually designed and hand carved by knife, the Bat pendant is a unique piece of jewellery; a one off piece of art, signed by Giles Newman and never to be reproduced. Ideal as a gift for a loved one or as an heirloom item to pass down for generations to come.
The Oak for this necklace was found exposed on the bank of a stream in Dartmoor, UK. Having fallen as long as 20,000 years ago, the Oak sank into a peat bog and remained largely preserved though partially fossilised due to the lack of oxygen in the peat. Eventually the Oak was uncovered by flood water.

The pendant can fit on chains up to 2mm thick (not supplied) via the eyelet attachment point on the reverse. Larger chains can be accommodated using split rings.
After carving the piece has been coated in Tung oil, a natural, deep penetrating oil.
Because this is a hand carved and finished product made from untreated, un-machined wood, the pendant will not be as smooth or perfectly finished as commercially manufactured wooden items. Knife and axe marks from the carving process will still be visible. As the pendant ages and is worn, it's colour will slowly mellow and change; this is perfectly natural.
